Partnering to Build a Path Out of Poverty

Braeburn is a nonprofit organization that
adopted an extended family in Indonesia (about 70 people).

Most members of this family are currently living at
Level 1 Poverty (defined by the United Nations as living on less than US$1.90/day).

Our multi-generational mission is to equip this family with educational scholarships, life skills, and leadership skills necessary to pursue further opportunities.

To do this, we use a collaborative approach to assist them in developing a "critical mass" of educated leaders who are building pathways to economic self-sufficiency
and greater wellbeing for current and future generations.

We Have A Plan And Want You To Be Part Of It

- We believe in cultural preservation. We are providing options, not mandating choices.

- We believe educated young people can break the cycle of poverty in their families and entire villages.

- We believe all people on the planet are interconnected (Watch "How Wolves Changed Rivers").

- We believe that with hard work and a good education, anything is possible.

- We believe hope has power.  Something better is possible for people willing to work for it and fight for it.

- We believe children can become whatever they dream despite the limitations of their place of birth.

- We believe education empowers and lifts up young people allowing them become their best possible self.

- We believe in Social Learning and the power of Communities of Practice;  working together we can advance our world.

Santi (Lukman and Suci's oldest sister) is an
incredible working woman and single mom.
These are her three kids:  Tia, Cayho & Gagas
Like most mothers, no matter where they live around the world, Santi wants educational opportunities for her children.

Cahyo, Gagas getting ready for elementary school...

Sindi getting ready for preschool...

Cello, 2 yrs old - waiting to go to school too!
These are Lukman and Suci's nieces and nephews:  Sindi, Gagas, Cahyo, Cello.  They are with Ka Santi, Suci, and Yenni (Lukman's sisters) harvesting rice in their rice field.

Lukman and Suci's mom, Gadik, and their father, Akeo, are also working in the rice field during harvest season.

This family will harvest rice twice per year.  Each harvest lasts about 6 months...there are a lot of growing children in this extended family to feed with each harvest.  Living at UN Poverty Level 1 means one bad crop can cause dire circumstances.

We support research.

Braeburn's programs are based on research-backed methods.  The Global Classroom is a classroom without walls - & educational laboratory - that provides an environment for U.S. and Indonesian students and interns to work with Braeburn staff, mentors and donors.  Here we are discovering and applying the latest methods for weaponizing education as a tool to reduce poverty and improve wellbeing.
