Indonesian Students

How many times have you been the FIRST person to do something?
When there is no role model, no one who went before you who can show you the path, you must CREATE the path.
That's what these amazing young people are doing!

These 10 young Indonesians are first generation college students and participated in
Braeburn's International Peer to Peer Program in 2015-16.

Please consider supporting future programs to encourage cross-cultural relationships, provide mentorship and
expand educational opportunities for students like these.

Ester
Hi! My Name is Ester Waker but most people just call me Ester. I'm 18 years old and I was born in Timika, Papua. Now I live in Jakarta, Indonesia and attend Sahid Institut of Tourism. I have one brother and 1 sister, but my sister passed away because she got cancer in her leg.

I want to tell you a little bit about my life story. When I was 6 years old, my father sent me to Central Java (in the semarang) for school. There, my father brought me to the dormitory for 3 years. Then my father sent me to my uncle in Salatiga, it's a place close to Semaran. I continued my elementary education there for 2 years. After that, my uncle said that he wanted to get married, so I couldn't live with him. My uncle decided to send me to Mama Sayang Orphanage in Jonggol, Indonesia; I was there for 5 years. When I graduated from junior high school, I decided to leave Mama Sayang Orphanage because I wanted to continue my school at a vocational high school in Cibubur and take tourism classes. I was there for three years and finished my school at Yadika 11 in Cibubur. After I graduated from vocational high school I continued to Sahid Institute of Tourism in South Jakarta.
