The United Nations defines Level One Poverty as those living on less than $1.90 per day.
Since 2013, Braeburn has sponsored a community in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
This village, Bamban Rancang, is located at zero degrees latitude, right on the equator,
and has no electricity, sanitation or clean drinking water.
These indigenous Dayak people are mostly rice farmers living a peaceful life in the world's 3rd largest rainforest.
They are happy people, but also only an accident or illness away from dire consequences.

Children in this village must walk for about an hour to get to the elementary school that provides education through 5th grade.
Most children walk to school barefoot...with empty bellies.
Many stop going to school at 5th grade or before.

A 2015 donor trip to Borneo - standing on the equator at zero degrees latitude (below).
Where is Borneo?
Indonesia is made up of about 17,000 islands.
Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi, and Papua are the largest islands.
Bali is a smaller island, but perhaps most well known.
Jakarta, a city of about 30 million people, is on the island of Java (the largest US city is New York with about 8.5 million people).
In Bahasa (the official language of Indonesia), the island of Borneo is called Kalimantan.
West Borneo is called Kalimantan Barat.
Borneo has the world's third largest rainforest after the Amazon and the Congo.
